Global software sales on PlayStation 3 have bucked industry trends to grow 40 per cent year-on-year to date.

The news came in EA’s Q1 2011 earnings call last night, in which the publisher claimed it was the leading third-party publisher on the format.

EA CEO John Riccitiello revealed that software sales in the ‘high definition’ console market are up 14 per cent – or $1.1 billion – year-on-year, according to EA estimates. The same software sales have grown 21 per cent when comparing calendar year 2010 so far to the same point in 2009.

“This is driven by the Sony PlayStation 3 which is up sharply on its attractive price point,” he added. “Microsoft is also starting to gain traction with its new enhanced Xbox 360 form factor. This trend plays into our strength given our share position on high-definition consoles.”

EA CFO John Schappert revealed that PS3 software sales had grown a whopping 40 per cent year-on-year to date – bucking an industry trend for falling software revenues. The system’s software sales were also up 40 per cent when comparing the three months to March 31st and the three months to the end of June.

“This substantially benefits EA as the leading third-party publisher on this platform,” added Schappert.

Sony revealed last month that it had now shipped 38.1 million PS3 consoles – just 3.6 million short of Xbox 360’s global sales to-date.

The software increase is made all the more remarkable when you consider that recent NPD data shows the US software market fell year-on-year in April, May and June.

EA also announced an all-new Need For Speed: Shift game for early next year in its Q1 2011 earnings call.

Playstation 3 repairs – Yellow light of Death or otherwise known as YLOD

The infamous Yellow light of Death , that’s what us internet / technology junky refer to this dreadful costly problem, Sony has Entertain us and now has failed us , I’m sure many of you patriot gamers like my self purchased the Playstation 3 on its released date and paid in excess of $1000 AUD , and just as your warranty / extended warranty ran out your consoles started to beep furiously and turning Yellow .

The console started to beep Yellow and my face began turning red , furious that my $1000 investment not including my vast collections of game has just become obsolete , and with the Global Financial Crisis so recent it’s financially unwise to go and spend another $500 getting a replacement.

Nonetheless rather then getting upset and wasting my time and effort calling the Australian Sony Technically Support Center located in INDIA , i started my research like all geeks do , and found that the cause and reason of this Infamously costly failure was actually HARDWARE failure.

The CPU “Central Processing Units” & VGU “Visual Graphic Unit” has fallen victim to dry solder , Sony recently brag out Microsoft saying there console was more durable and heat resistant , but they spoke too soon.

The Yellow light of Death , YLOD , is similar to the Microsoft XBOX 360 Red right of Death or know as RROD .

The only difference is Microsoft accepted responsibility and fork out $1Billion USD wordwide to fix the problem but  SONY is Denieding it .

Playstation 3 repairs – Bluray Laser replacment

In the mist of battle , gunshot firing, ducking for cover , i loaded my rifle and ran straight for the machine gun nest , and all of a sudden the Screen FROZE … god dam .. ! i didnt even save the game nor did i get a chance too , i then clench my heart and resetted the Playstation , and hope it was just a small hiccup , the console resetting , the screen came back on, a good sign it’s not the Yellow light of Death -YLOD , i scroll to the right and search for the game icon to appear , i could see the disc spinning on the top right hand corner of my screen , and waited , waited and waited .. NOTHING , Nothing appeared.

I proceeded to eject the Disc , to see if it’s dirty or scatch .. Nothing ..

It’ Just wouldnt read or detect the Disc , i then tried a CD , DVD and Bluray movie with no avail.

Comes in original box with documents, charger, dual shock3 controller, official ps3 remote control, official ps3 HDMI cable, 6 months waranty at Argos with receipt, 7 games: Metal gear solid 4, killzone 2, resident evil 5, condemned 2, red alert 3, orange box, dead space.
